Yin Yoga Workshop – Sunday 11th December

Yin Yoga Workshop with Ann Morley
Sunday 11th December, 10.30-12.30. £20 per person.

A Guide to Yin Yoga - Ann Morley

Yin Yoga is a beautifully relaxed style of yoga where the focus is on the inside; the sensations of the breath and body, and observing our reactions to those. We hold the stretches for a few minutes at a time to allow the best benefit to our connective tissues. It gives the body time to relax fully into the postures, whilst calming and stilling the mind, take the time to just be.

‘Yin’ is the soft, relaxing, accepting counterparty to the ‘yang’, the fast, dynamic, need to achieve that dominates a lot of our modern lifestyles; we need both yin and yang to come into balance.

The class is suitable for all levels. If you have any health concerns, please let Ann know before the class. Most things can be accommodated with some adjustment to the poses. Yoga mates and props are available to borrow, just remember to wear loose fitting clothes that allow you to stretch easily.

Ann is an experienced yoga practitioners, having practised since 2003. She trained to teach at Yogacampus, London and is accredited with Yoga Alliance.

Ben Hooper swears by it (Myofascial Release Therapy). In fact he believes that it will be crucial in helping him achieve his goal of becoming the first man to swim the Atlantic Ocean next year.

“The first time I thought ‘oh my God what is this’ but the difference is immense,” Ben says.

“I’ve been seeing Jenna for three months, six hours a week, it’s fantastic.

“We have so many swimmers and triathletes in Cheltenham and around Cheltenham, they should be booking in for this.

“The difference it makes to me emotionally – I walk out of here more relaxed mentally and physically.

“Physically it extends my stroke. I have greater reach and flexibility.

“It has been life-changing. It’s that serious and could be the difference between me making it or not.”

Louise Johnson will take the first part of the workshop focusing on singing. Singing is linked closely to good mental and physical health and this is the main aim of the singing workshop.  It will include mindful warm up exercises and a contemporary song, with harmonies, will be learnt.  Styles will include soul, folk, world, pop and gospel. Louise Johnson has taught in primary schools for over twenty years but has been involved in singing for most of her life, fronting bands semi-professionally for a number of years.  About six years ago she set up a school staff choir and since then has jointly run a school parent choir and led a school community choir.  These choirs led to her to developing a local adult singing group and from the success of that, she is now running a second group.

There will then be a five minute break & Rachel Flower will lead the next session. The aim of the meditation part of this workshop is to teach skills and techniques through a range of guided meditations and sources including scientific evidence of the benefits of meditation, different philosophies & poetry to promote a mindful approach to life. Rachel Flower has taught in secondary schools for many years & last year decided to combine her professional experience with her personal interest in mindfulness & to train to be a Teacher of Meditation with the British School of Meditation (BSoM). She is now accredited with the  BSoM as well as developing a strategy for mindfulness in her school she is starting up a range of mindful meditation workshops for adults in different settings.

Colonic Hydrotherapy is now at CHHC

We’re delighted to welcome Caroline Shaw, and colonic hydrotherapy, into the CHHC building at Camargue House, 32 Wellington Road.

As you may know, we managed Caroline’s practice for her at the Town House Clinic off Bath Road for a number of years but she has now moved her practice to Room 5 (upstairs) at Cheltenham Holistic Health Centre.

She has newly fitted equipment and a brand new cloakroom in her new clinical room so we look forward to welcome her (and you) to Camargue House.
