Cheltyoga:
Iyengar Yoga Classes at CHHC
Iyengar Yoga is a scientific fitness system which builds
flexibility, stamina, balance, aerobic capacity, concentration
and mental clarity. The system of teaching is methodical
and progressive, using supports called 'props' that
allow students to progress in their practice of postures
safely at their own pace. Beginners work in a basic
way on simple postures and as they develop they move
on to more refined ways of working and more complex
postures. As a student develops strength and flexibility
the props are discarded.
What are the effects
of Iyengar Yoga Practice?
With regular guided practice the effects are a general
feeling of physical health, psychological and mental
wellbeing. The practice works on and improves all of
the body's functions: nerves, circulation, hormones,
digestion, reproduction. The focus on postural alignment
can alleviate postural problems as well as creating
good posture through aligning the skeletal structure.
It keeps joints strong and freely moving. It dispels
tension, clears the mind and paves the way for deep
relaxation and subsequent tranquility. It can help to
develop a deeper knowledge of yourself which can contribute
to greater confidence.

Yoga with Charles Cox With its roots in ancient India, Yoga brings change
to the way we experience life. Through regular and careful
practice we can:
Begin to appreciate the intimate relationship
between our body, breath and state of mind.
Develop a quality of attention, allowing space
for reflection and self-inquiry.
Augment and support our health.
There are many different traditions and approaches to
yoga. In these classes we will focus on the precise
use of breath, in postures and in its own right, as
a powerful instrument to enhance the practice. Importance
is placed on the relationship between student and teacher.
We will take great care to adapt the techniques to your
needs, making each class relevant to everyone regardless
of age, gender or health. Charles Cox has been studying and practicing yoga
with senior teachers in the UK Since 1995. He has completed
three years of practitioner training with the AYS (Association
for Yoga Studies) and continues to study with his own
teacher.
He is registered for teaching with the British Wheel
of Yoga.
