Vicky is a fully qualified Rolf Practitioner. She graduated
from The Guild of Structural Integration - Boulder, Colorado,
and is especially interested in the direct relationship between
the body's structure and its functional patterns of movement.
The Rolf Method of Structural Integration,
also known as "Rolfing", works to create alignment
within the body's structure. Many different patterns
of chronic pain including symptoms such as back pain,
neck stiffness, joint pain and sciatica (along with
many others), can be the direct result of a misalignment
within the structure.
These misalignments may form gradually over time, for
example from poor posture in the workplace, or be the
immediate consequence of a specific event such as an
accident, injury or surgery.
Structural Integration works to release constrictions
within the connective tissue which can hold these structural
misalignments in place. This release can also specifically
benefit connective tissue disorders such as whiplash,
frozen shoulder and loss of joint mobility.
The work is typically given as a set of 10 sessions
which systematically releases different areas of the
body in a specific sequence to maximise the body's structural
potential and bring it into natural alignment. However
a set of 3 sessions or a one-off session can be similarly
beneficial.
As Structural Integration is a highly personal process
the benefits are unique to each individual. However
the commonly experienced outcomes include greater flexibility,
a feeling of lightness and fluidity, better balance,
increased breathing capacity, increased energy and greater
self-confidence. It is also common for people to appear
taller and slimmer as a result of the process.
