Louise Johnson will take the first part of the workshop focusing on singing. Singing is linked closely to good mental and physical health and this is the main aim of the singing workshop.  It will include mindful warm up exercises and a contemporary song, with harmonies, will be learnt.  Styles will include soul, folk, world, pop and gospel. Louise Johnson has taught in primary schools for over twenty years but has been involved in singing for most of her life, fronting bands semi-professionally for a number of years.  About six years ago she set up a school staff choir and since then has jointly run a school parent choir and led a school community choir.  These choirs led to her to developing a local adult singing group and from the success of that, she is now running a second group.

There will then be a five minute break & Rachel Flower will lead the next session. The aim of the meditation part of this workshop is to teach skills and techniques through a range of guided meditations and sources including scientific evidence of the benefits of meditation, different philosophies & poetry to promote a mindful approach to life. Rachel Flower has taught in secondary schools for many years & last year decided to combine her professional experience with her personal interest in mindfulness & to train to be a Teacher of Meditation with the British School of Meditation (BSoM). She is now accredited with the  BSoM as well as developing a strategy for mindfulness in her school she is starting up a range of mindful meditation workshops for adults in different settings.
