Clinical Testing

Allergy and intolerance elicit the response of different parts of our immune system.

An allergy is usually an immediate reaction to a protein, and common reactions can be swelling, itching, rashes or even breathing difficulty and anaphylactic shock.

An intolerance is normally a delayed reaction.  This can be up to three days after the ingestion of a particular food – and it may be more than one food which is the trigger.  For these reasons it is extremely difficult to determine which foods may be causing you a problem simply by an elimination diet.

Food intolerance can cause a range of symptoms including gut symptoms, bloating, headaches, migraines, low mood, fatigue, weight gain and skin problems.  There are many reasons that you may become intolerant to foods which you previously had no issue with.  Stress, changing hormones, medications or poor diet choices can all lead to compromised integrity and inflammation of the gut, this then impacts how you digest and absorb foods.

Marianne Andrews, our BANT & CNHC registered Nutritional Therapist offers simple blood tests for allergic or an intolerant reaction.  This is then backed up with full dietary advice to help you cope with the challenges of removing foods, ensuring that you are still eating a balanced and healthy diet. In the case of intolerance, it is crucial to help you put in the right nutrition to help heal your gut, so that after adequately resting and repairing your body, you can add those foods back to your diet.

  • Marianne Andrews is a qualified Nutritional Therapist offering consultations on a one to one basis, to give you the best and most effective nutritional programme to suit you.

Marianne’s interest in nutrition initially began because of chronic family illness. Realising the power of food, she then used it to good effect when faced with her young son’s allergies.

She has gone on to study to become a fully qualified Nutritional Therapist, registered with Complimentary Natural Health Council (CNHC) & a member of the British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT), and keeps up to date with regular training.

Tests Marianne trained in the use and interpretation of a wide variety of biochemical tests aimed at identifying underlying problems or providing risk assessments for certain health problems (see more detailed advanced Clinical Testing and Nutritional Therapy).

“I suffered gut issues and, after a full round of investigations, self-diagnosed as gluten-free. After coping reasonably well for five years, I visited Marianne Andrews at Cheltenham Holistic Centre. Marianne initiated a proper analysis and gave advice for a programme which focussed on what I could eat and what I should avoid. Within very few months, my gut was cleaned and the allergy was rectified subject to still being careful. My weight loss stabilised and I feel and look healthy. I would strongly recommend anyone with similar digestion issues to consult with Marianne.”
