Reflexology is a non intrusive holistic therapy which can be undertaken ay anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care and everyone in between. A reflexologist works on points on the feet, lower legs or hands.
How did Reflexology develop?
The art of reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China, but it wasn’t until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced it as “Zone Therapy” to the western world. He discovered that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body. In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed “Zone Therapy” into what is now known as reflexology.
How can Reflexology help?
Reflexology is a very individual treatment, which works with you holistically, so it is not possible to know in advance how you will react. The theory is that reflexology helps the body restore its balance naturally. Usually you might feel relaxed and tension might be reduced after a treatment, you may sleep better and you may notice a feeling of improved mood and general wellbeing. You might also notice that other aspects improve too, but that happens on a very individual basis. With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important for people to take more responsibility for their own healthcare needs, however reflexology may be one of the ways to mitigate the stresses of modern life. Some doctors and other healthcare professionals recognize reflexology as a well-established and respected effective therapy.
Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice and we encourage you to tell your doctor that you are receiving reflexology, whatever your motivation.
Has there been any research into Reflexology?
There has been some positive research claims carried out with reflexology. Research from Japan shows a link from foot reflexology points to a brain reaction using functional MRI scanning. This small study goes some small way towards explaining how reflexology might link feet to organs, through a blood flow reaction in the brain.

Baby Reflexology
Baby reflexology is specially adapted reflexology for babies. The techniques originally were developed for bonding and over the years have helped to ease, relief and eliminate many baby discomforts proving to be very popular and successful with parents. It can used from the age of 4 weeks onwards. It works in the same way as reflexology on adults, however it is specially adapted to suit the needs of babies, taking into account their size and well being.
Baby reflexology is taught in 2 weekly x 1 hour classes themed feeding/digesting/sleeping/discomfort and finally well being. It can be taught to parents or guardians. During the classes the babies will remain fully clothed and the babies mostly feel relaxed, fall asleep and love it!
The classes are taught by our reflexologist, Jenny Tuft. The costs are:
- One to one courses: £60 ( 2 x 1 hour classes)
- Group courses: £40 (2 x 1 hour classes) – maximum of 6 people in each group

Testimonials
“Dear Jane, I came to see you as a result of a friend recommending you. I was at a very low point due to my desperate need to have a child and finding out that I may have left things too late as I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure; I was given a less than 1% chance of success.
I know that from our first meeting that the reflexology treatment had some sort of effect because of changes that I felt in my body. My IVF cycle failed but I was more fortunate than words can describe as I fell pregnant naturally after my failed cycle. I truly believe that the reflexology helped my body to become more receptive and that a combination of the IVF drugs and reflexology helped my to have my beautiful daughter.
I am now seeing you again in the greedy hope that I can have a sibling for my little girl- fingers and toes crossed. I have recommended you to friends and I know that you have helped them in the same way that you have helped me. I would never hesitate in recommending you for your kindness, sensitivity and understanding with a highly emotive subject. Whenever I saw you, you let me be me, whether that was angry, crying, desperate or just alright.Thank you” Ms A.
“Dear Jane, I’d like to take a moment to thank you for the extra positivity you’ve brought to my life I so needed the input you have had in my life, I did feel I was drowning, despite knowing that a good wave was coming. Thanks, your value is beyond the words I have.” MC
